FAQ

Getting to the Event

Is the event handicapped accessible?
We are sorry to report that it is not. The theatre is on the third floor of the Khyber, accessible only by stairs. The Carbon Arc Cinema is a new imitative, and creating an accessible space is part of their mandate. The rental fees and proceeds from concessions go towards funding these goals.

Where should I park?
The Khyber is right in the heart of downtown Halifax, and doesn’t have a dedicated lot, so parking can be tricky. Since the event is on a Saturday all the metered parking in the area will be free, so you will probably have luck finding a parking space along any of the side streets in the downtown.

Here is a very informative PDF from the City of Halifax on parking in the downtown core.

Bus Routes
If you live in the city this is our recommended way of attending the event. The thing to watch with buses is that you don’t miss the last bus home again, so be sure to check the route schedule on the Metro Transit website, noting the different times for weekend routes.

The “Get Directions” feature on Google Maps has a really useful bus option that can help you sort out what your best route is.

What should I bring?

Costumes?
Feel like trotting out your coveralls or Hawaiian shirt before Halloween or the Hal-Con Costume Contest? We’d love to see it! Some of our crew will also be in costume!

Money?
You’ll want to bring some extra cash for the silent auction items and the great interplanetary foodstuffs. There are a few ATMs in the downtown area, but save yourself the time and bank fees and plan ahead!

Children?
This is an “all-ages” event, but bear in mind that the movie itself is rated PG-13, and the Carbon Arc Cinema will be serving alcoholic beverages.

If I don’t have paypal can I still buy a ticket? :) I’d like one for the first viewing, please. Just tell me where I can go to purchase, may I have one put on hold for me? :)

    Thank you! :)

You definitely can buy a ticket in person at two locations in Halifax (see our post here for details). I can’t reserve the ticket for you, but if you call ahead to either location they probably could. Glad you’re excited, and we’ll see you there! :)

The complete list of events for the day is available on the Schedule page, so that should give you a good idea of when to be there so you don’t miss Dr. Horrible. We’re very excited to be able to offer it, and I hope you enjoy it! :)
